About Galbanum Resinoid

Galbanum Resinoid is a concentrated aromatic extract obtained from the gum resin of Ferula gummosa and Ferula galbaniflua, species native to persian and surrounding regions. While galbanum gum in its raw form has long been valued for its intense green, earthy, and balsamic scent, the resinoid produced through solvent extraction of the oleo-gum-resin offers a more refined, richly concentrated material that retains the plant’s full aromatic complexity.

Production and Characteristics

  • Extraction method: Solvent extraction from the oleo-gum-resin

  • Appearance: Thick, sticky, dark brown to greenish-brown viscous liquid

  • Solubility: Soluble in alcohols and most aromatic solvents; partially soluble in fixed oils; insoluble in water

  • Shelf life: Up to 4 years when stored in airtight containers, away from light and heat.

Main constituents:

  • Terpenes (α-pinene, β-pinene, sabinene, limonene)

  • Undecatrienes (e.g., (E,E)-1,3,5-undecatriene   known as galbanoles)

  • Resins and sulfur-containing compounds

  • Trace amounts of Trace amounts of coumarins (such as umbelliferone)

Olfactory Profile

  • Odor family: Green, balsamic, resinous

  • Notes:

    • Fresh, bitter green

    • Earthy and woody with sweet balsamic undertones

    • Ambery nuances when blended with labdanum

  • Perfume role: Base note — one of the rare naturally green base notes used in perfumery

Application in Perfumery

Galbanum Resinoid is a cornerstone ingredient in the formulation of:

  • Chypre green perfumes

  • Floral greens

  • Woody and aquatic fougères

  • Balsamic compositions

Its ability to simultaneously offer bitterness, sweetness, and greenness makes it a uniquely versatile raw material. It’s commonly used to temper overly sweet compositions and to evoke natural, forest-like atmospheres in fragrance design.

Sustainability Note

Sourcing of galbanum resin is carried out strictly in compliance with national and international regulations. Our harvesting processes are fully legal, environmentally responsible, and respect local ecosystems. We are committed to ethical labor standards—no child labor or exploitation of women is involved at any stage of collection or processing. Responsible extraction ensures both the quality of the resinoid and the long-term sustainability of this precious material, while supporting the well-being of local communities.
